Gourock Outdoor Pool is a cool outdoor swimming spot in Gourock, Inverclyde, Scotland. It's special because it's the oldest heated swimming pool in all of Scotland! It's a public lido, which means it's an open-air pool, often found near a body of water.
What Makes Gourock Pool Special?
This amazing pool uses salt water from the nearby Firth of Clyde, which is a large sea inlet. Don't worry, the water is super clean! It's carefully filtered and kept at a warm temperature of at least 29 °C (84 °F).
The pool has great facilities for everyone. There's a gym if you like to work out, and a special pool just for kids. You can visit the Gourock Outdoor Pool during the warmer months, as it's open from May until the first week of September. Inverclyde Leisure is the group that manages and takes care of the pool.
A Look Back: History of Gourock Pool
The Gourock Outdoor Pool first opened its doors way back in 1909. Imagine swimming there over a hundred years ago! For many years, the water wasn't heated. But in 1969, a heating system was added, making it much more comfortable to swim, even on cooler days.
The pool got a big upgrade after the summer of 2010. It closed for a major improvement project. By the end of 2011, the work was finished. The old changing rooms were replaced with a modern leisure centre. This new centre included a bigger gym and an elevator. The lift makes it easy to get from the street level down to the new changing rooms and the improved pool area.
