Gracia Querejeta was born in Madrid, Spain, in 1962. Her father, Elías Querejeta, was a well-known film producer. Her mother, María del Carmen Marín, designed costumes for movies. Gracia studied Ancient History at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
Before she started directing, Gracia worked as an actress. She began her directing career in 1988 with short films. Her first full-length movie was Una estación de paso in 1992.
