Graham Robert Cowdrey (born June 27, 1964 – died November 10, 2020) was a talented English cricketer. He came from a famous cricket family, as his father, Colin Cowdrey, was also a well-known player. Graham played cricket for Kent County Cricket Club for many years.

Graham Cowdrey's Cricket Journey

Graham Cowdrey was born in Farnborough, England, in 1964. He attended Wellesley House and Tonbridge School as a student. His family had a very strong connection to the sport of cricket.

Playing for Kent

Graham was known as an attacking batsman. This means he liked to score runs quickly and hit the ball hard. He played for Kent County Cricket Club from 1984 to 1998. During this time, he played in two main types of cricket matches:

  • First-class cricket: These are longer matches, usually lasting three to five days. Graham played 179 first-class matches.
  • List A cricket: These are shorter, one-day matches. He played 261 List A matches.

Family of Cricketers

Cricket was truly a family sport for the Cowdreys. Graham's father, Colin Cowdrey, was a legendary English cricketer. Graham's brother, Chris Cowdrey, also played cricket professionally. Even his nephews, Fabian Cowdrey and Julius Cowdrey, followed in the family's footsteps and became cricketers.

After Playing Cricket

After his playing career ended, Graham Cowdrey continued to be involved in cricket. He worked as a Cricket Liaison Officer for the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). In this role, he helped make sure cricket matches ran smoothly and followed the rules.
