Graham flour facts for kids
Graham flour is a special kind of flour made from whole wheat. It's named after a person called Sylvester Graham. What makes it different is how it's ground. While regular whole-wheat flour uses the whole grain, graham flour is ground more roughly, or "coarsely." This means it has bigger pieces of the wheat grain in it.
Why Was Graham Flour Created?
Graham flour was invented by Sylvester Graham (1794–1851). He was a big believer in healthy eating and wanted people to eat better.
Back then, many people started eating white bread. To make white bread, parts of the wheat grain, like the germ and bran, were removed. These parts contain important nutrients. Sylvester Graham thought this was a bad idea.
He believed that using the entire wheat grain when making flour and baking bread would help people stay healthier. This idea became very important during the Industrial Revolution, a time when many changes were happening, including how food was made and what people ate. Graham wanted to make sure people still got all the goodness from their grains.
