History of Grainfield
Grainfield began its story in 1879. This was when a railroad was built through the area. The city was named for the large wheat fields nearby.
The very first post office in Grainfield opened its doors in May 1879. This helped people send and receive letters.
A special building called the Grainfield Opera House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's an important historical site.
