Grand Bay, officially called Berekua or Berricoa, is a lively village in the south of Dominica. In 2010, about 2,288 people lived there. It is the biggest town in St. Patrick Parish.
Grand Bay is also known as "South City." It is seen as the cultural heart of Dominica. This vibrant community sits right along the Atlantic Ocean on the southeast coast. The island of Martinique is just south of it, across the sea.

Grand Bay is surrounded by beautiful mountains. To the south, you'll find Bois Den. Palmiste is to the west. Morne Plat Pays is in the northwest. Morne Anglais and Morne Watt are to the north. The Foundland range is in the northeast and east.

Nestled among these mountains are several other villages. These include Bellevue, Pichelin, Montine, Tete Morne, Grand Coulibrie, Dubique, and Stowe. The main part of Grand Bay has a long, narrow street called Lallay. Most people live along this street.
Older parts of the village include Mabouchay, Back Street, Hagley, Wavin Banan, Powell, and Berikua. After Hurricane David hit in 1979, Grand Bay grew. New areas like Geneva, Highland, Bala Park, and Bolom were added.

Grand Bay was the first village in Dominica to have its own radio station. This station, called RADIO En Ba Mango, started in the mid-1980s. Urban "Man'I" Dangleben founded it as part of his life's work.

Urban "Man'I" Dangleben was a skilled electronics repairman. He was also a popular radio and TV host. Radio En Ba Mango is known as "the voice of the South" or "the mouth of Grand Bay." This is because the village is in the southern part of Dominica. That's also why Grand Bay is called "South City."
Urban lived in France and Guadeloupe for some years. He worked in electronics and was a very popular radio DJ. He then returned to his home country. He used his technical skills to create Dominica's first private radio station.
