Grant Hayden Kenny (born on June 14, 1963) is a famous Australian athlete. He used to be an Ironman (a type of surf lifesaver) and a canoeist. He won a bronze medal in canoeing at the 1984 Summer Olympics.

Grant Kenny's Amazing Career

Grant Kenny became well-known in 1980 when he was just 16 years old. On the same day, he won both the Junior and Open Australian Iron Man Championships! This was a huge achievement.

He then went on to win the Australian Open Ironman Title for the next three years in a row. Many people in Australia knew his name because he appeared in TV commercials for Kellogg's Nutri-Grain cereal.

After his success in Iron Man competitions, Grant Kenny started focusing on kayaks in the mid-1980s. He also helped create the Uncle Toby's Super Series. This was a new and exciting professional Iron Man competition that ran for 12 years. Grant even competed in the first two seasons of this series. However, he had other interests that took up his time, so he couldn't train as much for such a tough sport.

In kayaking, Grant Kenny competed in two Summer Olympics. He won a bronze medal in the K-2 1000 meter event at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. He won this medal with his teammate, Barry Kelly.

Awards and Recognition

Grant Kenny has received several important awards for his contributions to sport and business:

  • In 1986, he received the Medal of the Order of Australia. This award recognized his great service to sport.
  • In 2000, he was given the Australian Sports Medal.
  • In 2001, he received the Centenary Medal. Both of these awards were for his work in sports and business.
  • In 1996, he was added to the Sport Australia Hall of Fame. This means he is recognized as one of Australia's greatest athletes.

Grant Kenny's Family Life

Grant Kenny was married to Lisa Curry in 1986. Lisa was also a famous Australian swimmer. They had three children together: Jaimi Lee, Morgan, and Jett. Sadly, their oldest child, Jaimi Lee, passed away in 2020 at the age of 33 after a long illness.

Grant and Lisa used to own a company together called Curry Kenny Aviation Group. In 2009, this company owned about 60 aircraft. Grant and Lisa separated in May 2009.

Later, in 2012, it was reported that Grant Kenny and comedian Fifi Box were expecting a child. This was confirmed, and their daughter was born on April 5, 2013.
