Granville Earl Anderson (born around 1960) is a Canadian politician. He has served in different roles in Ontario, Canada. From 2014 to 2018, he was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. He represented the area called Durham for the Liberal Party. After that, he became a Regional Councillor for the town of Clarington. He served Wards 3 & 4 from 2018 to 2022. Currently, he is the Regional Councillor for Wards 1 & 2 of Clarington.
Granville Anderson's Early Life and Education
Granville Anderson was born in Jamaica. When he was 13 years old, he moved to Canada with his family. He studied at the University of Windsor. There, he earned a certificate in mediation law. He also received a business administration diploma from Seneca College.
Before becoming a politician, Granville Anderson worked as a mediator. A mediator helps people solve disagreements. He also owned his own company that offered mediation services.
Granville Anderson's Start in Public Service
Granville Anderson began his public service as a school trustee in 2003. A school trustee helps make decisions for a school board. He was later chosen to be the chair of the Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland, and Clarington Catholic District School Board. This meant he led the meetings and work of the school board.
Granville Anderson's Political Journey
Granville Anderson first ran for a provincial election in 2014. He was the Liberal candidate for the Durham area. He won the election, beating the Progressive Conservative candidate. This made him a member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.
During his time as a Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP), he had important roles. He was a Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Children and Youth Services. He also served as a Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Education. These roles meant he helped the ministers with their work.
In the 2018 Ontario general election, Granville Anderson was not re-elected. However, he continued his public service. In 2018, he ran for a local position in Clarington. He became the Regional Councillor for Wards 3 & 4. He won this election with 34.11% of the votes.
Granville Anderson ran again for the provincial election in 2022. He was the Liberal candidate for Durham, but he did not win. He lost to Todd McCarthy.
Later in 2022, he ran for another local election in Clarington. This time, he ran for Regional Councillor for Wards 1 & 2. He won this election in a very close race, getting 44.2% of the votes. He continues to serve as a Regional Councillor in Clarington.
