A CDP is an area identified by the U.S. Census Bureau for statistical purposes, even if it's not a formally incorporated town with its own local government.
Where is Grayson Located?
Grayson is situated along US Route 169, a major highway. It's about four miles north of the town of Trimble. You can also find it approximately six miles west-southwest of Plattsburg. A notable nearby landmark is the Smithville Reservoir, which is a large lake on the Little Platte River, located about 3.5 miles to the east of the village.
A Look Back: The History of Grayson
The village of Grayson was officially planned and mapped out, a process called "platting," in 1871. It received its name from the maiden name of the wife of the person who originally owned the land where the town was built. For a while, it was also known by a slightly different name, Graysonville.
A post office, which helps send and receive mail, was first opened in Graysonville in 1871. The name of the post office was changed to Grayson in 1882. However, the post office eventually closed its doors in 1954, meaning residents then had to go to a nearby town for their mail services.
