The name "Great Neck" can be a bit confusing! It refers to both this specific village and a larger area. The larger "Great Neck" area includes nine villages and other small communities. To tell them apart, the Village of Great Neck is sometimes called "the old village."

History of Great Neck Village
The Village of Great Neck officially became a village in 1922. This means it got its own local government.
In 2022, something dramatic happened to the Great Neck Village Hall. A lightning strike caused a fire! This damaged parts of the building. The village plans to fix and restore the building, which was first built way back in 1833.
