Great Notch is a small community in New Jersey, United States. It is located in Passaic County, within the eastern part of Little Falls. Great Notch is known as an "unincorporated community" and a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it's a recognized area for counting people, but it doesn't have its own separate local government.
The area gets its name from a natural gap in the first of the Watchung Mountains. You can find parts of Montclair State University here. The Great Notch Fire Company also serves the community.

Getting Around: Transportation
For many years, Great Notch had its own train station. This station was part of the NJ Transit system. However, in January 2010, the train service at the Great Notch station stopped. This happened because fewer than 10 passengers used the station each weekday.
