Later, "Greatest Love of All" was released as its own single on March 18, 1986. It became a huge success! The song spent three weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in May of that year.

The version of the song on Whitney Houston's album starts with a piano. But the single version, which was released later, begins with a keyboard. After the song became a hit, the keyboard version replaced the original on new copies of the album. However, the original piano version was put back on the album's special 2010 edition.
