Green Spot is a popular orange-flavored soft drink. It's not fizzy (which means it's non-carbonated) and doesn't have caffeine. This drink first started in the United States. Today, you can find it mainly in countries like Thailand and Venezuela.
The Story of Green Spot
Green Spot began its journey in 1934 in the United States, specifically in Claremont, California. It quickly became popular and started to spread around the world.
How Green Spot Grew
By the late 1930s, Green Spot was already available in Shanghai. It continued to expand into many Asian countries:
- In 1950, it arrived in Hong Kong.
- In 1952, it reached Singapore.
- In 1954, it started being sold in Thailand.
- By 1957, it was available in Sarawak, which is part of Malaysia.
- It also became popular in the Philippines and Indonesia.
Green Spot was even sold in the Netherlands for a while. In 1962, a Dutch artist named Wim T. Schippers did something unusual. He emptied a bottle of Green Spot into the sea near a place called Petten. This strange event actually made international news!
Where is Green Spot Today?
Green Spot stopped being sold in the United States around the 1960s. It also disappeared from most other countries over time. The original company, Green Spot USA, now makes flavorings for drinks, ice cream, and other food items.
However, the Green Spot drink is still very much alive and popular in two countries:
- In Thailand, it's produced by a company called Green Spot Co., Ltd. This company also makes a well-known soy drink called Vitamilk.
- In Venezuela, the drink is made and sold by Embotelladora Venezuela S.A.
