Greenfield Township was once a part of Wayne County, Michigan. It was created in 1833 from a piece of Springwells Township, which was its neighbor. Greenfield Township even had its own police force to keep things safe and orderly.

Over time, parts of Greenfield Township were added to nearby cities like Detroit and Highland Park. This process started around 1875. By 1926, Greenfield Township no longer existed as a separate area.

Today, you can still see where Greenfield Township used to be. Greenfield Road follows what was once the western border of the township. Eight Mile Road marked its northern edge. Tireman Avenue follows the old southern boundary, which separated Greenfield from Springwells Township.
