What is a Greenish Puffleg?
The greenish puffleg is a type of hummingbird. It gets its name from the soft, white feathers that cover its legs, making them look puffy. These feathers are called "puffs" or "leggings." The bird itself is mostly green, which helps it blend in with the leaves of the forest.
Where Does it Live?
This special hummingbird lives in the high, wet mountain areas of Central and South America. You can find it in:
Its home is usually in "subtropical" or "tropical moist montanes." This means it lives in warm, wet mountain forests, often called cloud forests, where there's a lot of mist and rain. It can also live in forests that have been partly changed by humans, as long as there are still enough trees and flowers for it to find food.
Conservation Status
The greenish puffleg is currently listed as "Least Concern" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). This means that, for now, its population is stable and it is not considered to be in danger of disappearing. However, like many forest animals, its habitat can be threatened by deforestation. Protecting its mountain forest homes is important for its future.
