Greenville was once a small town in Yuba County, California, United States. It used to be called Oregon Hill. This former settlement was located near Little Oregon Creek, about 4.25 miles (6.84 km) southeast of a place called Challenge. It sat at an elevation of 2,182 feet (665 meters) above sea level.

Greenville's Early Days

Greenville was established in 1857. For a short time, it even had its own post office. The post office served the community from 1857 until 1860.

Life in Greenville

During the late 1800s, Greenville was home to a few hundred people. It had important places like a general store where people could buy supplies. There was also a school for the children in the area. A special narrow-gauge railroad, used for logging, connected Greenville to the nearby Beanville Mill. This train also stopped in the town of Challenge.

Becoming a Ghost Town

Over time, people started to leave Greenville. By the year 1957, Greenville had become what is known as a ghost town. This means most of its residents had moved away, leaving behind empty buildings and a quiet landscape.
