Challenge (once called Challenge Mills) is a small place in Yuba County, California. It is an unincorporated community. This means it is not officially a city or town with its own local government. Instead, it is part of the larger county.

Challenge is located about 30 miles (48 km) northeast of Marysville. It sits along a stream called Dry Creek.

Years ago, Challenge was an important spot for moving wood. It was the end point for a special logging railroad. This train carried cut timber to a mill in a place called Beanville.

A post office first opened in Challenge in the year 1895.
