Greg Cook's College Basketball Journey
Greg Cook started his college basketball career at LSU in 1976. He played really well in his first year, which is called his freshman season. During this season (1976–77), he scored about 11.5 points and grabbed 9.2 rebounds per game. Rebounds are when a player catches the ball after a shot is missed.
Taking a Break and Coming Back Strong
After his amazing freshman year, Greg took a break and did not play during the 1977–78 season. But he came back to play for LSU for three more years. These years were very successful for the team.
In 1980, Greg helped the LSU Tigers win the SEC tournament championship. This is a big competition for teams in the Southeastern Conference. The next year, in 1981, he helped his team reach the NCAA Final Four. The Final Four is the semi-final round of the biggest college basketball tournament in the United States. It's a huge achievement for any college team.
Professional Basketball and Later Life
After his college career, Greg Cook was chosen in the 1981 NBA draft. The New York Knicks picked him as the 40th player overall. This means he was the 40th player chosen by any team in the draft that year.
