How Gregorys Coffee Started
Gregorys Coffee was founded by Gregory Zamfotis in 2006. The very first shop opened on Park Avenue and 24th Street in Manhattan, New York. This company is part of what is called the "third wave coffee" movement. This means they focus on high-quality, special coffee.
Gregorys Coffee has always been a family business. Gregory's family members have helped with different parts of the company over the years.
As of 2025, Gregorys Coffee has 54 locations where people can buy their coffee and food.
Where You Can Find Gregorys Coffee
Today, Gregorys Coffee shops are in many different states. You can find them in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, Illinois, Washington, California, Minnesota, Florida, and Phoenix.
In September 2016, Gregorys opened a special place in Long Island City, Queens, New York. This place is where they roast their coffee beans and prepare many of their foods. Later that year, they opened their first shop outside of New York. It was located by the water in Jersey City, New Jersey. Also in 2016, the company agreed to rent a space for 15 years in Brooklyn, New York. This became their first store in that part of the city. In 2017, Gregorys opened several coffee shops in Washington, D.C.
In March 2020, Gregorys had to temporarily close all 31 of their shops. This happened because of the coronavirus pandemic.
In 2024, Gregorys teamed up with a company called Simon Property Group. This partnership helped them open new stores in more states. It also helped them reach a total of 54 stores. Gregorys officially opened its 50th store in November 2024. This special shop is located at the Woodfield Mall in Schaumberg, Illinois.
In 2025, Gregorys opened its first shop in Central New Jersey, in the town of Old Bridge. Gregorys plans to open two more stores in New Jersey in the future.
