The Story of La Colombe Coffee
La Colombe was started by two friends, Todd Carmichael and JP Iberti. They opened their first coffee shop in 1994. It was in the Rittenhouse Square area of Philadelphia.
Years later, in 2015, Hamdi Ulukaya became involved. He is the person who started Chobani yogurt. Hamdi Ulukaya bought a part of La Colombe. He helped the company get $28.5 million. This money was used to help La Colombe grow and open more locations. This was a time when many smaller coffee companies were getting big investments.
How La Colombe Joined Chobani
In July 2023, another company, Keurig Dr Pepper, invested $300 million in La Colombe. This gave them about one-third of the company.
Then, in December 2023, Chobani bought La Colombe completely. The deal was worth $900 million. As part of this big purchase, Keurig Dr Pepper's share in La Colombe changed. They now own a smaller part of Chobani instead. Chobani borrowed $550 million to help pay for La Colombe.
