The grey-capped hemispingus (Kleinothraupis reyi) is a special kind of bird. It belongs to the tanager family, called Thraupidae. This bird is found only in Venezuela, which means it is endemic to that country.

Its natural home is in moist montane forests. These are forests found on mountains. Sadly, its home is shrinking because of habitat loss. This makes it a threatened species.

What Does It Look Like?

This bird is easy to spot by its grey head. It has a grey crown, which is the top part of its head. Unlike some birds, it does not have a special stripe above its eye.

Its upper body is an olive green color. This helps it blend in with the leaves in the forest. Its belly and chest are bright yellow. This makes it a colorful bird!

Where Does It Live?

The grey-capped hemispingus lives high up in the mountains. You can find it at elevations between 2,200 meters and 3,000 meters. That's like living on top of some very tall buildings! These mountain forests are its perfect home.
