Groupement des écoles d'aéronautique facts for kids
The GEA France (which stands for Groupement des écoles d'aéronautique) is like a special team of three top engineering schools in France. These schools are all about teaching students how to design, build, and fly airplanes and spacecraft. They are known as "grandes écoles," which are very selective and prestigious universities in France.
The three schools in GEA France are:
- The École nationale de l'aviation civile (ÉNAC), which has campuses in many cities like Toulouse, Montpellier, and Melun.
- The École nationale supérieure de mécanique et d'aérotechnique (ISAE-ENSMA), located in Poitiers.
- The Institut Supérieur de l'Aéronautique et de l'Espace (ISAE-SUPAERO), also in Toulouse.

Learning About Aviation in China
The Sino-European Institute of Aviation Engineering
GEA France also helped create a special school in Tianjin, China. This school is called the Institut sino-européen d'ingénierie de l'aviation (Sino-European Institute of Aviation Engineering). It was started with help from the French government and big French companies like Airbus and Thales. This happened because Airbus built a factory in Tianjin to assemble its A320 planes.
The school opened in October 2007. It trains Chinese students to become aerospace engineers. The courses are taught in French. Students first spend a year learning French. Then, they have two years of special preparation classes, followed by three years of aeronautical engineering studies.
Advanced Studies in Aviation
Special Master's Programs in Tianjin
Besides the main engineering courses, the Sino-European Institute of Aviation Engineering in Tianjin also offers three special advanced programs called Mastères Spécialisés. These programs are not part of the regular engineering degree but offer deeper knowledge in specific areas.
These special programs focus on managing safety in aviation:
- Aviation Safety management: focusing on how airplanes are maintained.
- Aviation Safety management: focusing on making sure planes are safe to fly (airworthiness).
- Aviation Safety management: focusing on how flights are operated safely.
These advanced courses are designed for Chinese students who want to work in the aviation industry and become experts in safety.
