History of the Groupie Doll Stakes
This horse race began in 1982. It was first called the 'Gardenia Stakes' or 'Gardenia Handicap'. Later, the race was renamed to honor a famous horse. That horse was Groupie Doll, who won the race in 2011.
The Groupie Doll Stakes became a very important race in 1988. It was given a 'Grade III' status. This means it was recognized as a top-level race for horses. However, in 2019, its status changed to a 'Listed' race. This still means it is a significant race.
