Gruschwitz Textilwerke AG is a company in Germany that makes special threads and yarns. It's located in a town called Leutkirch im Allgäu in the region of Baden-Württemberg.
How Gruschwitz Began
The Gruschwitz company started way back in 1816. It was founded by Johann David Gruschwitz in a place called Nowa Sól, which was then in Silesia. The company grew from a business linked to the Moravian Church.
In 1847, Johann David Gruschwitz left the company. His sons, Heinrich and Alexander Gruschwitz, took over and made the business even more successful. They named it JD Gruschwitz & Söhne oHG.
Later, in 1906, the company became Gruschwitz Textilwerke AG. This meant it was now a public company. During the First World War, Gruschwitz was a very big employer, with over 3,500 people working there.
Starting Over After World War II
At the end of the Second World War, the Gruschwitz factories were in an area controlled by the Red Army. The factories were taken over by the government, and about 4,000 employees lost their jobs.
But the company didn't give up! In 1950, with help from some former employees, Franz Alexander Doherr-Gruschwitz started a new, smaller factory. They began making twisted yarns again in Neu-Ulm, Bavaria.
Gruschwitz Today
In 2004, Gruschwitz moved from Neu-Ulm to Leutkirch im Allgäu. This happened after the company bought two other textile businesses.
Since 2005, the main work of the company has been done by Gruschwitz GmbH Tech-Twists. This part of the company is a leader in making special threads, yarns, and sewing threads in Western Europe.
They use both natural materials, like cotton, and modern man-made fibers to create their products. Today, Gruschwitz employs about 150 people in Leutkirch im Allgäu.
