Guanare (pronounced gwa-NAH-reh) is an important city in Venezuela. It is the capital of Portuguesa State. This means it's the main city where the state government works.

Guanare is located near the Andes mountains. It sits where the flat plains meet the hills. This area is known for raising animals and growing crops. Guanare is also home to a campus of UNELLEZ, which is a big university.
