Club History

How Guaratinguetá Futebol Started

The club was founded on October 1, 1998. It was first known as Guaratinguetá Esporte Clube. A group of people, including Doctor Mário Augusto Rodrigues Nunes, started the club.

In November 1999, a group called the Consórcio de Guaratinguetá was formed. They worked with C.S.R Futebol e Marketing to manage the club. This company was owned by businessman Carlos Arini and famous football players César Sampaio and Rivaldo.

Soon after, on November 26, 1999, the club joined the São Paulo Football Federation. This allowed them to play in the Campeonato Paulista Série B2 the next year.

Changes in Ownership

In 2002, the Consórcio de Guaratinguetá group stopped working with the club. After that, two businessmen, Odário Mardegan Durães and Elmiro Aparecido de Faria, owned the club.

Since 2004, the club has been owned by Sony Alberto Douer. In 2005, he and Carlos Arini started a company called Sony Sports. This company was created to manage the football club. Later, Clementino Bolan and Gustavo Gazzolla also joined Sony Sports. The club then changed its name to Guaratinguetá Futebol. It became a limited company, which is a type of business.

Playing in Top Leagues

In 2006, Guaratinguetá played in the Campeonato Paulista Série A2. They did well and were promoted to the Campeonato Paulista Série A1 for the next year. This was a big step for the club.

In 2007, the club played in the Campeonato Paulista Série A1 for the very first time. Their first game in this competition was against São Caetano. Guaratinguetá lost that game 2–0.

Moving Cities

On October 15, 2010, the club announced a big change. They decided to move from Guaratinguetá to a city called Americana. They also changed their name to Americana Futebol.

However, this move did not last long. On November 28, 2011, the club's management, Sony Sports, announced they would return to Guaratinguetá. They came back to play in the 2012 Campeonato Paulista and other games. The city of Americana and its main stadium, Estádio Décio Vitta, could not fully support two clubs. Also, most of Guaratinguetá's fans lived in their original city.
