Gudrun Lund (born April 22, 1930 – died January 14, 2020) was a talented Danish composer. A composer is someone who writes music. She was born in a city called Aalborg in Denmark. Gudrun loved music from a young age.

She studied music, German, and English at the Copenhagen Conservatory. This is a special school for learning about music. After finishing her studies, she became a teacher. She taught at the Copenhagen Day and Evening College of Education.

Becoming a Composer

Gudrun Lund started writing her own music later in life. She began composing in 1975 when she was 45 years old. She continued to learn more about composing. She studied with famous composers like Svend S. Schultz and Mogens Winkel Holm.

Later, she traveled to the United States to study even more. In 1983 and 1984, she attended Hartt College of Music. This school is part of the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Connecticut.

Her Musical Works

Gudrun Lund wrote over one hundred pieces of music. She composed in many different styles, called "genres." Her music was for various instruments.

Some of her well-known compositions include:

  • Three Pieces for Horn
  • Piano Trio op. 67 (a piece for three instruments, usually piano, violin, and cello)
  • Five Dialogues
  • Six Duos Op.40 for trumpet (music for two trumpets)
  • Clarinet Trio (for clarinet, viola, and piano)
  • Talks, op. 136 for flute, clarinet, and bassoon

The "Talks" piece is interesting because it has four parts:

  • II. Politicians (music that might make you think about leaders)
  • III. Sad news
  • IV. Solving problems

Recorded Music

Some of Gudrun Lund's music has been recorded. You can find her music on CDs.

  • New Danish Woodwind Music was released in 1997. It features music for instruments like flutes and clarinets.
  • 10 Tankevaekkende udsagn (which means "10 suggestive utterances") was recorded in 1994. This piece was for a female voice, flute, cello, and accordion.
