Guillermo Franco was born in Corrientes, a city in Argentina. This is where he began his journey in football.
Playing for Clubs
Guillermo Franco played for several football clubs throughout his career. He started in Argentina, then moved to Mexico, Spain, England, and the United States.
San Lorenzo Club
Franco started his professional career with San Lorenzo in Argentina. He played with this team from 1996 to 2002. During this time, he mostly played as a right winger.
Monterrey Club
In 2002, Franco joined Monterrey in Mexico. He quickly became a key player for the team. In 2004, he was the top scorer in the league, with 15 goals in 16 games. He helped Monterrey win the Mexican league championship in 2003. They also finished second twice in 2004 and 2005.
Villarreal Club
After his success in Mexico, Franco moved to Spain to play for Villarreal. He played there for three years. Pachuca and Chicago Fire Clubs
In 2012, Franco joined Pachuca in Mexico. Later that year, he moved to the United States. He signed with the Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer (MLS). On January 29, 2013, Guillermo Franco announced that he was retiring from professional football.
Playing for His Country
In 2004, Guillermo Franco became a citizen of Mexico. This allowed him to play for the Mexican national team. He made his debut for Mexico in 2005.
Franco played in the 2006 FIFA World Cup and the 2010 FIFA World Cup. These are huge international football tournaments. He also played in the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup, which Mexico won.
