Guillermo Timoner Obrador (born March 24, 1926 – died August 17, 2023) was a famous Spanish cyclist. He is known as one of the best motor-paced racers ever! He won six gold medals and two silver medals at the UCI Motor-paced World Championships between 1955 and 1965. His cycling career lasted an amazing 52 years. During this time, he also won 29 national championships in different types of cycling.

Early Life and Career

Guillermo Timoner was born in Felanitx, a town in Mallorca, Spain. Before he became a professional cyclist, he worked as a carpenter. He started his cycling journey early.

First Wins

Guillermo won his very first cycling competition in 1943. This was just the start of his long and successful career. He became a professional cyclist and competed for many years.

World Champion Achievements

Guillermo Timoner was especially good at motor-paced racing. In this type of cycling, riders follow closely behind a motorcycle. The motorcycle helps the cyclist go very fast.

Gold Medals

Guillermo won six gold medals at the UCI Motor-paced World Championships. These big wins happened in:

European Champion at 69

In 1995, when he was 69 years old, Guillermo won the European Championships! He cycled a distance of 53.4 kilometers (about 33 miles). His average speed was 37.4 kilometers per hour (about 23 miles per hour). This showed his incredible skill and fitness even at an older age.

Awards and Personal Life

In 1998, Guillermo Timoner received the Ramon Llull Award. This is a special award given by the government of the Balearic Islands. It honors people who have done great things for the region.

Family

Guillermo lived in his hometown of Felanitx, in the Balearic Islands. His younger brother, Antonio Timoner, was also a competitive cyclist.

Death

Guillermo Timoner passed away on August 17, 2023, at the age of 97. He left behind a legacy as one of Spain's greatest cyclists.
