A Look at Guisa's History
Guisa was founded a long time ago, in 1765. This was in the middle of the 18th century.
Wars and Battles
During the late 1800s, Guisa was a very important place for several wars. These included the Ten Years' War, the Little War, and the Cuban War of Independence. Because Guisa is in eastern Cuba and close to the Sierra Maestra mountains, many military actions happened here.
One famous event was the Capture of Guisa in 1897. Cuban forces, led by Lieutenant General Calixto García, took control of the town.
Later, during the Cuban Revolution (from 1956 to 1959), a very important battle took place here. This was the Battle of Guisa in 1958, where the rebel forces won a major victory.
Guisa's Economy
The main way people in Guisa make a living is through farming. This is similar to the rest of the Granma Province where Guisa is located.
