Gulfport is a small village in Henderson County, Illinois, United States. It is located right on the western edge of the state. In 2020, about 42 people lived there.
Gulfport is part of the area around Burlington, Iowa. A big event in its history was the flood of 2008. During this flood, a levee broke, and the village was almost completely underwater. Only the roofs of some buildings could be seen.
Location and Land
Gulfport is found on the western side of Henderson County. The Mississippi River forms its western border. This river also separates Illinois from Iowa.
U.S. Route 34 is a main road that goes through the village. It crosses the Mississippi River on the Great River Bridge to reach Burlington, Iowa. If you travel east on U.S. Route 34, you can reach Monmouth (about 27 miles away) and Galesburg (about 44 miles away).
The village covers a total area of about 2.30 square miles (5.94 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 1.41 square miles (3.66 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 0.88 square miles (2.29 square kilometers), is water, mainly from the Mississippi River.
