A Look at Gullspång's Past
Gullspång gave its name to a new local government area, called a municipality, in 1971. However, the main offices for this new municipality were set up in Hova. Only a few smaller offices stayed in Gullspång.
There has been a friendly competition between Gullspång and Hova for a long time. Because of this, the municipality doesn't call one town the "main seat." Instead, they say Gullspång and Hova are the municipality's two "main localities."

The Special Gullspång Salmon
Right in the middle of Gullspång, there's a special structure called a salmon-stair. It was built in 2004. This stair helps the local "Gullspång salmon" swim upstream.
The salmon-stair was built to help more of these special salmon survive. It works because flood gates were installed. These gates filled a dry area with water from the Gullspångsälven river. This created a path for the salmon to move easily.
