The Amazing World of Gumball (also known simply as Gumball or by its abbreviation TAWOG) is a popular animated sitcom created by Ben Bocquelet for Cartoon Network. The show follows the exciting lives of 12-year-old Gumball Watterson, an anthropomorphic blue cat, and his adopted goldfish brother, Darwin. They attend middle school in the fictional city of Elmore. Gumball and Darwin often find themselves in funny and wild situations around the city. They interact with their family—their smart younger sister Anais, their busy mom Nicole, and their stay-at-home dad Richard—along with many other unique characters.
Ben Bocquelet created many of the show's characters using ideas from his earlier work. He wanted to mix "family shows and school shows," which Cartoon Network was very interested in. The show is produced by Cartoon Network Development Studio Europe (now Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe) and other studios.
Gumball is famous for its unique visual style. It mixes different animation techniques, sometimes even in the same scene! You can see traditional cartoons, puppetry, CGI, stop motion, Flash animation, and even live-action parts. Even though it's a show for kids, Gumball often explores important topics like family life, understanding different viewpoints, and dealing with everyday challenges. The series has received great reviews and has many dedicated fans. People especially love its clever humor, references to popular culture and internet culture, and its funny, unexpected twists.
The main series finished after season 6. After that, two short miniseries were released: Darwin's Yearbook in November 2019 and The Gumball Chronicles in October 2020. A new series, called The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball, which acts as a seventh season, was released on July 28, 2025. A television film based on the series is also being developed.

What is The Amazing World of Gumball About?
The show is all about the adventures of Gumball Watterson, a 12-year-old cat, and his best friend, Darwin, who is an adopted goldfish. They live in the made-up American city of Elmore. Gumball's family also includes his very smart rabbit sister Anais, his rabbit dad Richard, and his cat mom Nicole. They often get involved in Gumball's funny plans. Gumball and his siblings go to Elmore Junior High, where they meet many different classmates, including Penny Fitzgerald, who Gumball has a crush on.
A special place in the show, called "The Void," was introduced in the third season. It's a hidden dimension in Elmore where all the universe's mistakes and forgotten things end up. Rob, a character who was once in the background, got trapped in The Void. He later escaped and became Gumball's main rival. Rob knows he is a character in a TV show and believes Gumball is the reason for his problems.
How The Show Was Made
When Cartoon Network Studios Europe started in 2007, Ben Bocquelet was hired to help others share their show ideas. But then, the studio asked everyone to pitch their own ideas. Ben decided to use characters he had created for commercials and put them all together in a show set in a school. Daniel Lennard, a vice president at Turner Broadcasting System Europe, liked the idea and approved the show's production in 2009. The first season had 36 episodes and was made with Studio Soi, Boulder Media Limited, and Dandelion Studios.
