Karin Gunvor Sjöblom Hägglund (born March 2, 1932 – died August 19, 2011) was a well-known Swedish television host and translator. She was famous as Gun Hägglund. She made history in 1958 by becoming the first female news anchor in Sweden. She presented the national evening news show Aktuellt. Some people thought she was the first female news reader in the world. However, other women like Barbara Mandell (UK, 1955) and Armine Sandford (UK, 1957) were news presenters before her.

Gun Hägglund's Early Career
Gun Hägglund started her career in 1955 at Swedish Radio. She worked there as a secretary. She also announced programs on the radio. Her job was to help with foreign news.
Becoming a TV News Anchor
In 1958, Gun Hägglund moved to Swedish Television. This is where she became Sweden's first female news anchor. She presented the national news show Aktuellt. She often worked alongside another pioneer news anchor, Olle Björklund.
Working as a Translator
Besides being a news anchor, Hägglund also worked as a translator. She translated foreign movies and television shows. In an interview from 1966, she explained how hard it was. She had to turn long conversations into short subtitles. These subtitles would appear at the bottom of the screen.
Popular TV Shows and Family Life
Many people in Sweden remember Gun Hägglund from her entertainment programs. She hosted popular daily shows. These included Halvsju (which means Half Past Six O'Clock), Razzel, Träna med TV (Workout with TV), and Café Sundsvall.
Co-hosting with Her Husband
Gun Hägglund was married to Karl-Axel Sjöblom. He was a news editor known as KAS. They even hosted Halvsju together. This show became one of the most popular television programs in Swedish history. They were married until Karl-Axel passed away in 1982.
Later Life and Legacy
For 30 years, Gun Hägglund was very involved with cycling. She worked for the Svenska Cykelfrämjandet. This was the National Association for Promotion of Cycling. First, she was the Secretary-General. Later, she became the Executive Chairman. She even wrote several books about cycling.
Moving to Gotland
In 1986, Hägglund moved from Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. She moved to Gotland, an island in the Baltic Sea. She lived there until she passed away in 2011. She died in Visby after a short illness.
