Gunavidji facts for kids
The Gunavidji people, also called Kunibidji or Ndjébbana, are an Aboriginal Australian group. They live in a special part of Australia called Arnhem Land, which is in the Northern Territory. They have a rich history and culture connected to their traditional lands.
The Ndjébbana Language
The Gunavidji people speak a unique language called Ndjébbana. It's part of a group of languages known as the Maningrida languages. Learning about their language helps us understand their culture and history.
The traditional lands of the Gunavidji people cover about 1,300 square kilometers (500 square miles). This area is around the valley of the Liverpool River. It stretches to where the Tomkinson River meets the mangrove swamps. Their main community is in a place called Maningrida township.
