Gunhild Kristensen's Artworks
Gunhild Kristensen created many amazing pieces of art during her life. She was especially known for her work with stained glass. Stained glass uses colorful pieces of glass to make pictures, often seen in church windows.
Her First Stained Glass Window
Gunhild received her first big job for stained glass in 1957. She was asked to design a window for a famous church. This church was St. Bavo's Church in Haarlem. It was a very important project for her.
The Rotterdam Windows Story
Gunhild also designed three windows for St. Lawrence's Church in Rotterdam. However, only one of these windows was actually made at first.
Gunhild found out that the church leaders preferred a male artist for the other windows. Because of this, she decided not to take on the job for the remaining windows. She believed in her own talent and worth as an artist.
Years later, in 2014, the church decided to finish the project. They chose to commission the other two windows. Luckily, Gunhild's original designs for these windows had been saved. This means her full vision for the church could finally be completed.
