The Story Behind Gunlock's Name
The community of Gunlock got its name in a unique way. A post office was opened there in 1936. The very first postmaster, who was in charge of the mail, reportedly chose the name "Gunlock." He found this interesting name in a newspaper article he was reading. The article was about a ranch out in the western part of the United States.
The post office in Gunlock served the community for many years, helping people send and receive letters and packages. It had its own ZIP code, which was 41632. However, the post office eventually closed its doors in 1998.
