Who is Guru Randhawa?
Guru Randhawa was born in a small village called Noorpur in the Punjab state of India. Before he became a music star, he would perform at small shows and parties in cities like Gurdaspur and Delhi.
While living in Delhi, he also finished his studies and got a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. His stage name, "Guru," was given to him by the rapper Bohemia, who thought his full name was too long to say on stage.
His Musical Journey
Early Days (2012–2014)
Guru started his music career in 2012 with the song "Same Girl." A year later, he released his first single, "Chhad Gayi." His older brother helped him pay for the song to be made.
In 2013, he released his first album, called Page One. Even though he released many songs, he didn't become famous right away. It took a few years of hard work before his music started to get popular.
Finding Fame (2015–2016)
Everything changed when the rapper Bohemia helped Guru get a deal with the major music company T-Series. They worked together on the song "Patola," which became a massive hit. The video has been watched hundreds of millions of times on YouTube!
After "Patola," Guru released more hit songs. In 2016, his song "Suit" became one of his most popular tracks ever. Another big song from that year was "Yaar Mod Do," which he made with Millind Gaba.
Becoming a Superstar (2017–Present)
In 2017, Guru's music entered the world of Bollywood movies. His song "Suit" was used in the film Hindi Medium and was renamed "Suit Suit." This made him even more famous across India.
He released two of his biggest songs, "High Rated Gabru" and "Lahore". Both songs have over a billion views on YouTube, which is a huge achievement! In 2018, his song "Lahore" even won an award for Track of the Year at the Brit Asia TV Music Awards.
Guru also started working with artists from around the world. In 2019, he released "Slowly Slowly" with the American superstar Pitbull. The music video got 38 million views in just 24 hours! He worked with Pitbull again in 2020 on the song "Mueve La Cintura." That same year, he also collaborated with British artist Jay Sean on the song "Surma Surma."
In 2021, his song "Dance Meri Rani" became a huge hit. In 2022, he worked with another famous Indian artist, Yo Yo Honey Singh, on the song "Designer".
Making Movies
Besides music, Guru Randhawa has also stepped into the world of movies. In 2019, he became a producer for the Punjabi film Tara Mira.
He made his acting debut in the 2024 film Kuch Khattaa Ho Jaay. He has also appeared in many of his own music videos, often in special appearances in the movies his songs are featured in.
