About Guru Randhawa
Gursharanjot Singh Randhawa was born on August 30, 1991. His birthplace is Noorpur, in the Gurdaspur district of Punjab, India. He began his career by performing at small shows in his hometown. Later, he moved to Delhi and started singing at parties and events. While in Delhi, he also earned his MBA degree. The famous rapper Bohemia gave him the nickname "Guru." This is how he became known by his stage name.
Early Music Steps (2012–2014)
Guru Randhawa officially started his music career in December 2012. His first song was "Same Girl," a collaboration with Arjun. This song was not a big hit for either artist.
In early 2013, Guru released his first solo song, "Chhad Gayi," on YouTube. His older brother, Ramneek, helped him pay for this song. Later that year, he released his first album, Page One. He released three songs from this album: "Dardan Nu," "I Like You," and "Southall." Even though he released many songs, none of them became very popular at first. The year 2014 was also quiet for him. He released more songs from Page One, but they did not bring him much success.
Becoming Popular (2015–2016)
Things changed for Guru Randhawa in 2015. Bohemia, who believed in Guru, asked T-Series to support the young artist. They then worked together on the song "Patola." This song became a huge hit, getting hundreds of millions of views on YouTube. "Patola" even won an award for the best Punjabi Duo.
After this success, he sang with Ikka Singh on songs like "Outfit" and "Khat." In 2016, Guru Randhawa released four more very popular songs. He released "Yaar Mod Do" with Millind Gaba in January. This song was about true friendship and also got many views online. In April, he released "Tu Meri Rani" on his own YouTube channel. This song featured the rapper Haji Springer.
One of his most famous songs, "Suit," came out in 2016. This was his second time working with Arjun. It has also received hundreds of millions of views on YouTube. In September, he worked with Rajat Nagpal on the song "Fashion," which also became very popular.
Big Hits and International Collaborations (2017–Present)
In 2017, Guru Randhawa released an emotional song called "Taare." Later that year, he made his Bollywood singing debut. His hit song "Suit" was used in the Indian movie Hindi Medium and renamed "Suit Suit."
He also performed at the opening ceremony of the 2017 Indian Premier League. Two more of his songs appeared in Bollywood movies in 2017. His old song "Tu Meri Rani" was used in the film Tumhari Sulu. He also released a new song called "Lagdi Hai Thaai" for the movie Simran with Jonita Gandhi.
His songs "High Rated Gabru" and "Lahore" are among his most-viewed. Both have over a billion views on T-Series' YouTube channel. In 2018, "Lahore" won "Track of the Year" at the Brit Asia TV Music Awards. Guru Randhawa also won "Best Male Act" at the same awards.
His first international song was "Slowly Slowly" with the famous rapper Pitbull. It was released on April 19, 2019. The music video for this song got 38 million views in just 24 hours. This made it one of the most-viewed music videos in the world in a single day.
In 2019, Guru Randhawa also became a producer for the Punjabi film Tara Mira. In 2020, he worked with British artist Jay Sean on "Surma Surma." His old song "Lahore" was also used in the movie Street Dancer 3D as "Lagdi Lahore Di." During the Corona pandemic, he released a calming song called "Satnam Waheguru." He also appeared in a music video for Pitbull's song "Mueve La Cintura." This was his second time working with Pitbull.
