Gwen Moore (born October 28, 1940 – died around August 19, 2020) was an American politician. She served in the California State Assembly, which is a part of California's government that makes laws. She represented the 49th district from 1978 to 1992 and the 47th district from 1992 to 1994.

Early Life and Education

Gwen Moore was born in Los Angeles, California. She went to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). There, she earned a bachelor's degree and a special certificate to become a teacher.

Her Political Career

In 1975, Gwen Moore was elected to the Los Angeles Community College District Board. This board helps manage local community colleges. These colleges offer education after high school.

Later, in 1978, she was elected to the California State Assembly. This is a group of elected officials who create laws for the state of California. She worked there until 1994.

During her time in the Assembly, Gwen Moore supported important laws. For example, she helped pass rules about "supplier diversity." This meant making sure that different types of businesses, including those owned by women and minorities, had a fair chance to work with the state. She also supported laws to make sure large supermarkets had public restrooms.

She first represented the 49th District. After some changes to district maps in 1990, her area became known as the 47th District.

Because of "term limits," which meant she could only serve a certain number of years, Gwen Moore decided to try for a different job. In 1994, she ran to become the Secretary of State of California. This person is in charge of elections and keeping official records for the state. She did not win that election.

A place in Los Angeles, called Gwen Moore Lake, is named after her. It is in the Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area. This honors her many years of public service.

Her Passing

Gwen Moore passed away around August 19, 2020. She was 79 years old.
