Gwendolyn J. Shepherd is an American actress. She was a talented performer who appeared in many musical plays during the late 1970s and 1980s. Later, starting in 1989, she also appeared in several popular TV shows.

Stage Performances

Gwendolyn Shepherd played the role of Maria in the well-known 1977 production of Porgy and Bess by the Houston Grand Opera. This show was performed at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco. She played Maria again in 1983 in Chicago and also on Broadway that same year.

From June 1978 to July 1979, she toured the country playing Evelline in the musical The Wiz. In 1980, she was one of three female singers in the off-Broadway show Blues in the Night.

She played Queenie in the Broadway operetta Show Boat in 1984. In 1986, she was a backup actress, called an understudy, for the touring show Legends. She performed at least once during that tour. In 1987, she was also an understudy for the role of Rose in Stepping Out.

In 1988, she played Peaseblossom in a Broadway production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Critics said she was "ample and vocally strong" in the role. This play ran from December 1987 to March 1988.

Television Roles

Many people know Gwendolyn Shepherd from her guest appearances on popular TV shows between 1989 and 1994. These shows included Webster, Knots Landing, Law & Order, Married People, Murder She Wrote, and Family Matters.

She is especially remembered for her role in the TV show Seinfeld. In the episode called "The Stranded", she played a cashier. Her character had an argument with George Costanza about ten dollars.

She also used her voice talents for the Playhouse Disney series PB&J Otter. She was the voice of Opal Otter on the show.

Movie Roles

Gwendolyn Shepherd also had small parts in two movies. She appeared in Easy Money in 1983 and Penn & Teller Get Killed in 1989.
