Gyeran-ppang (which means "egg bread" in Korean) is a super popular and yummy street snack you can find all over South Korea. This warm treat is shaped like an oval loaf of bread. It's both sweet and a little bit savory. The best part? There's a whole egg baked right inside the fluffy dough!
How Is Gyeran-ppang Made?
Making Gyeran-ppang is pretty cool! People use a special machine for it. This machine has many oval-shaped spots. First, they pour in a special cake batter. This batter is usually made from wheat flour, baking powder, milk, more eggs, butter, sugar, salt, and vanilla extract.
Then, a whole egg is cracked right into the batter in each spot. The egg breads cook until they turn a beautiful golden brown color. Sometimes, people add yummy toppings like chopped parsley, cheese, or diced ham to make them even better!
The History of Egg Bread
Gyeran-ppang has a fun history. It was first created in 1984. The very first place it was made was near the back gate of Inha University. Since then, it has become a favorite snack for many people in South Korea.
