Göllü Dağ is a special type of volcano called a lava dome. It is found in the central part of Turkey.

This volcano has produced different kinds of volcanic rock. These include rhyolite, dacite, and basalt. Scientists have studied the rocks from Göllü Dağ. They used a method called fission track dating on a natural glass called obsidian. This dating showed the lava is very old, from about 1.33 to 0.84 million years ago.

Göllü Dağ sits on top of an even older volcanic feature. This feature is called the Derinkuyu caldera. A caldera is a large, bowl-shaped hollow. It forms when a volcano erupts and then collapses inward.
