Günter Sawitzki's Football Journey
Günter Sawitzki started his football career playing for a team called SV Sodingen. This team was not one of the biggest, but Günter's amazing performances as a goalkeeper made many people notice him. One of these people was Sepp Herberger, who was the coach for the West Germany national team.
Before he left SV Sodingen in 1956, Günter had already played two games for the West Germany national team. He then joined a bigger club, VfB Stuttgart. With Stuttgart, he achieved one of his biggest successes: winning the West German Cup in 1958. This is a very important football competition in Germany.

Even though he was a reserve player and did not play in these matches, it was a great honor to be part of the national squad. He played a total of ten games for West Germany before 1963.
