This lake stretches across several areas known as townships, including Machault, Royal, Belmont, and L'Espinay. It is located southwest of Chapais, Quebec.
The main activity around Lake Hébert is forestry, which means harvesting trees. Tourism and fun activities like boating are also popular because there are many lakes and rivers nearby.
You can get to Lake Hébert using two forest roads: R1009 (which runs north-south) and R1053 (which runs east-west).
The lake's surface usually freezes over from early November until mid-May. It's generally safe to walk or play on the ice from mid-November to mid-April.

About Lake Hébert
Lake Hébert gets most of its water from the Hébert River. This river starts from a small lake and flows into Petit Lac Hébert before reaching Lake Hébert.
Lake Hébert is quite long, about 17.6 kilometres (10.9 mi) (11 miles). It's also about 3.7 kilometres (2.3 mi) (2.3 miles) wide at its widest point. The lake sits at an elevation of 389 metres (1,276 ft) (1,276 feet) above sea level.
The lake is surrounded by hills and land that separate it from other rivers. To the west, you'll find the Saint-Cyr River (Doda Lake) area, and to the east, the Aigle River (Doda Lake) area.
Features of the Lake
Lake Hébert has some interesting features:
- It has about 50 islands! One main island is about 1.7 kilometres (1.1 mi) (1.1 miles) long and is right in the middle of the lake.
- There's a long piece of land, called a peninsula, that sticks out from the west shore. It stretches for about 2.0 kilometres (1.2 mi) (1.2 miles) towards the center of the lake.
- The lake also has a few bays, which are small inlets of water. One of these bays is where the water flows out of the lake, located in the northeast.
Where the Water Goes
The water from Lake Hébert flows out and travels a long way!
- It flows north into Doda Lake, which is connected to the Opawica River.
- The Opawica River then joins the Chibougamau River.
- Next, the water flows into the Waswanipi River, which leads to Lake Matagami.
- Finally, the water continues down the Nottaway River until it reaches the southeastern part of James Bay.
