The Story of HOME
HOME was created by joining two other art groups from Manchester. These were Cornerhouse and the Library Theatre Company.
The money for HOME came from Manchester City Council, the Garfield Weston Foundation, and Arts Council England. HOME works with Manchester City Council to help the local community through art.
Many talented people helped make HOME happen. Dave Moutrey led the whole project. Sarah Perks was in charge of visual arts, Jason Wood handled films, and Walter Meierjohann managed the theatre shows.
The Library Theatre Company
The Library Theatre Company used to perform in the basement of Manchester Central Library. This theatre was built in 1934. The company started using it in 1952.
From 2010, the Library Theatre Company also performed at The Lowry arts centre in Salford. In 2014, it became part of HOME. Then, in May 2015, it moved into the new HOME building.
Famous Supporters
In 2014, some famous people became supporters of HOME. These included filmmaker Danny Boyle and actress Meera Syal. Other supporters were director Nicholas Hytner, writer Jackie Kay, filmmaker Asif Kapadia, actress Suranne Jones, and artists Phil Collins and Rosa Barba.
What You'll Find at HOME
HOME is located on First Street in Manchester. It has two main performance areas. One is a theatre with 500 seats. The other is a flexible studio space with 150 seats.
There are also five cinema screens and a large gallery for modern art. You can also find a café bar and a restaurant there. The building was designed by Mecanoo Architects from the Netherlands. HOME is part of a plan to create a creative area in the city.
