HaPijamot (which means The Pajamas in Hebrew) is a funny TV show from Israel. It's about a group of friends who want to become a famous band. The show aired on Arutz HaYeladim (The Kids' Channel) and Channel 2. It ran for many years, from 2003 to 2015, with 9 seasons and 223 episodes!

About the Show

The show follows the funny adventures of three friends: Ilan, Kobi, and Oded. They move from Netanya to Tel Aviv to start their band. What's cool about this show is that the characters know they are on TV! They often talk directly to the viewers.

A special part of the show is "HaMasach HaLavan" (the white screen). Here, the actors talk to you, the audience. Gary, another character, also talks to the viewers when he's alone. He often shares his thoughts about his life.

The show also had some unique episodes. For example, one episode let viewers fast forward or rewind to change the story. Another episode even had a scratch-and-sniff feature! Every episode ends with "Shtifat Kelim" (washing the dishes). The characters wash dishes for Gary and talk about what happened in the episode.

Exploring the Seasons

HaPijamot had a long run with different series of seasons.

First Series: Seasons 1-3

The very first season started on July 1, 2003, and had 23 episodes. It was super popular, so The Kids Channel decided to make two more seasons right away.

  • Season 2 began on March 28, 2004, with 19 episodes.
  • Season 3 premiered on July 1, 2004, and had 20 episodes.

After Season 3, the show took a break because one of the main actresses, Alona Tal, moved to the US.

Second Series: Season 4

A year later, the show came back! Many people were watching old episodes online, so The Kids Channel decided to film a new season.

  • Alona Tal was still in the US but appeared in five episodes as a guest.
  • Yamit Sol joined the cast to play a new character.
  • Yuval Segal, who played Ilan's cousin in Season 2, became a main character.
  • Season 4 started on August 13, 2006, and had 25 episodes.

Third Series: Season 5

In December 2007, another season was ordered.

  • Dana Frider joined the cast.
  • Yamit Sol was in fewer episodes because she was studying.
  • Season 5 was the longest season yet, with 36 episodes. It aired on September 1, 2008.

Fourth Series: Seasons 6-7

More seasons were ordered in 2010.

  • Yuval Segal returned to the main cast.
  • Season 6 started on September 1, 2010, with 25 episodes.
  • Season 7 aired on September 1, 2011, also with 25 episodes.

Fifth Series: Seasons 8-9

The show was renewed for its final two seasons.

  • Season 8 aired on May 19, 2013.
  • Season 9, the very last season, aired on January 4, 2015.

Meet the Characters

The show has many memorable characters, both main and recurring.

Main Characters

  • Ilan Rosenfeld (Ilan Rosenfeld) – He plays the keyboard and writes most of the band's songs. Ilan often tries to get a date, but things usually go wrong in a funny way. His catchphrase is: "What do I need all this for?! Let's just pack up our bags and move back to Netanya."
  • Oded Paz (Oded Paz) – Oded is the band's drummer. He's not the smartest but is super lucky! He works at Gary's burger joint, the Hamburgary, and often annoys Gary. His catchphrase is "Gotta go, Gotta go!".
  • Ya'akov "Kobi" Farag (Kobi Farag) – Kobi is the band's guitarist. He's always hungry and loves to eat! He's Gary's nephew and Roni's cousin. Kobi is great at changing clothes quickly and has many secret identities, like Naji Comradin Jackson. He often visits an elderly woman, Ms. Bracha, to eat at her house.
  • Gershon "Gary" Mendelbaum (Yaniv Polishook) – Gary owns the Hamburgary, a burger place with food that's not very tasty. He's Kobi's uncle and Oded's boss. Gary often complains about his life, especially his wife Shifra and daughter Roni. He also has triplets who bother him. In the last season, Gary finds "Wikipedia" and tries to change history using his "Leck-top." He often asks, "Why?" when things go back to normal.
  • Roni Mendelbaum (Eli Keren-Asaf) – Roni is Gary's daughter. She thinks her dad isn't very smart but she is very talented and usually smarter than everyone else. She often makes Gary give her money.
  • Alona Tal (Alona Tal) – Alona is the band's background singer and plays percussion. She's the friends' neighbor, and they often argue over her. Alona was a main character in the first three seasons and appeared as a guest in Season 4.
  • Yamit Sol (Yamit Sol) – Yamit joins the show in Season 4. She plays percussion and sings background vocals. In Season 5, she lives with Dana and studies psychology.
  • Nathan Kuperman (Yuval Segal) – Nathan is Ilan's cousin from Beersheba. He's the band's temporary DJ. He appears a few times in Season 2 and becomes a main character in Season 4. He's very emotional and cries loudly when he's happy or sad.
  • Dana Frider (Dana Frider) – Dana is Shifra's niece and joins the show in Season 5. She doesn't replace Yamit, as they both appear. Dana often reminds the others that she was on a dance show called Nolad Lirkod and did shampoo commercials. She always tells them they can't even dream of dating her.
  • Shifra Mendelbaum – Shifra is Gary's wife. Gary always complains about her, saying she's very demanding. When she calls Gary, she gives him many chores and doesn't let him speak. Shifra is almost never seen, except for a flashback in one episode.

Other Fun Characters

  • Mr. Avraham Latin (Simon Rosenfeld) – An old man who lives in the same building. He's a bit deaf and often says "What?" when people talk to him. He's played by Ilan's real-life father!
  • Ms. Bracha Kirschenberg (Rivka Gur) – An elderly woman who owns the building and doesn't like the band's noise. She's in love with Naji Jackson (one of Kobi's characters) and lets him eat at her house.
  • Ruby Duenyas (Ruby Duenyas) – The show's director, who sometimes appears in the show himself!
  • Badash (Nadav Assouline) – He's like the show's "devil" character. He often tries to trick the band members.
  • Albert (Aryeh Cherner) – He helps fix up the Hamburgary and the band's home.
  • Shimon Tzimhoni (Nir Ron) – Gary's biggest enemy! They've been feuding since they ran for student council. He often tries to compete with Gary's burger business.
  • Malka Kuperman (Effi Ben Israel) – Ilan's aunt and the owner of the band's apartment. She lives abroad, so Kobi and Oded have to hide whenever she visits!

Kobi's Many Characters

Kobi is a master of disguise and plays many different characters in the show:

  • Freddie "Nice-to-Meet" – The band's manager. He often talks about unrelated things, which confuses everyone.
  • Naji Comradin Jackson – An old man with an Iraqi accent. He pretends to be the head of a housing association to help the band with Ms. Bracha. He often eats at Ms. Bracha's house, who has a crush on him.
  • Marcel Fuerro (Poirot) – A policeman who shows up when there's a mystery to solve. He's based on a famous detective.
  • Sabbaba Sali – A wise rabbi character who often says confusing things and uses quotes from songs.
  • Eddie "Good-to-See" – Freddie's brother. He's a dancer and choreographer.
  • Meireinstein – A sports broadcaster with a ponytail that covers his eyes. He always has a comb that he uses as a microphone.
  • Yehoram Zuberbuler – An old-fashioned TV broadcaster who speaks very formal Hebrew. He appears in black and white.
  • Mani Pire – An amazing chef and Marcel's brother. He became a superstar chef in the later seasons, even getting his own online show!
  • Jora – A mix of Naji and the character Dora. She appears in a few episodes with her monkey friend, Butchak.
