Hadler is a small, unincorporated community located in Pleasant View Township, within Norman County, in the state of Minnesota, United States. An unincorporated community is a place where people live together but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's usually managed by the county.
History of Hadler
Around the year 1900, people living in Pleasant View Township needed a closer place to sell the crops and goods they produced on their farms. They wanted a market that wasn't too far from their homes.
A man named Jacob Hadler stepped up to help. He traveled to St. Paul to ask the Railroad and Warehouse Commission for assistance. His goal was to convince the Great Northern Railroad to build a train station right in the middle of the distance between two other towns, Ada and Lockhart. Jacob Hadler was successful in his mission!
Andrew Burley, another resident, generously donated the land where the new train station would be built. He was given the special chance to name the new station. However, he didn't choose a name. So, the station was first called "Wicklow." Later on, the name was changed to Hadler. This was done to honor Jacob Hadler, who had worked so hard to make the train station a reality for the community.
A post office was also opened in Hadler in 1903. This made it easier for people to send and receive mail. However, the post office only stayed open for a few years, closing its doors in 1908.
