How Hahnville Got Its Name
After the sale of Louisiana to the United States in the early 1800s, a courthouse was built in the area. A small community grew around it.
In 1872, a man named Thomas Sharpe began planning a village near the courthouse. He called it Flaggville. Around the same time, a former governor named Michael Hahn owned a large sugar farm nearby. He started dividing his land to create a new settlement. This new place was called Hahnville. Over time, "Hahnville" became the name for the whole area.
