Club Football Career
Starting Out in Israel
Revivo started playing football at Hapoel Ashdod. When he was 16, he moved to the youth club of Gadna Tel Aviv Yehuda. He liked that this club did not have a senior team. This meant he would be a free agent when he turned 18.
At 19, Giora Spiegel brought him to Bnei Yehuda. This happened after two other clubs, Hapoel Kfar Saba and Maccabi Petah Tikva, decided not to sign him. Revivo played for Bnei Yehuda for three seasons. After that, he moved to Hapoel, a rival team in the same city.
Success with Maccabi Haifa
When another player, Reuven Atar, wanted to leave Maccabi Haifa, the club quickly signed Revivo as a replacement. Revivo was happy to join Haifa. He believed it was a good step to play for a European club later.
In his first season with Haifa, Revivo was one of the top scorers in the league. He scored 17 goals. In his second season, he wanted to play more in the center of the field. His manager, Giora Spiegel, was not sure at first. But to keep his star player happy, he let another player, Alon Mizrahi, leave. Revivo continued to play well and was again the league's top goal scorer. Soon after, Maccabi Haifa sold him to a Spanish club, Celta de Vigo.
Playing in Spain with Celta Vigo
Revivo quickly became a regular starter at Celta Vigo. In October 1996, soon after he joined, he made headlines. A league match was scheduled on Yom Kippur, a very important Jewish holiday. Revivo really wanted to avoid playing on that day. The club managed to move the match a few hours earlier. Revivo played as long as he could. He was taken off in the second half so he could go home for the holiday. He had several successful years in Spain and became very popular there. In 1998, he was named a co-winner of the Israel Sports Figure of the Year Award.
Moving to Turkey and Return to Israel
Revivo's first two years with Fenerbahçe in Turkey were successful. He helped the team win the Turkish championship in 2001. However, he later felt less important to the club. This was because other famous foreign players were brought in. He decided to leave. His move to Istanbul rivals Galatasaray caused a lot of discussion. He only stayed at Galatasaray for one year before leaving Turkey.
After returning to Israel, he signed with F.C. Ashdod. But after playing only 12 games, he decided to retire from football. Today, Haim Revivo is a successful businessman. He was also one of the former owners of F.C. Ashdod.
International Career Highlights
Youth National Teams
Revivo first played for a national team on December 18, 1990. He played for the Israel national under-18 football team against Portugal. He played in the midfield with Avi Nimni and Eyal Berkovic. He would play with them for most of his national team career.
About a year and a half later, on May 13, 1992, Revivo played his first game for the Israel national under-21 football team. It was a friendly match against Turkey in Israel. He scored a goal in his first game. He scored four more goals in nine appearances. This included two goals in a qualifier for the 1994 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship against Austria.
Playing for the Senior National Team
Six months after his under-21 debut, he played for the senior Israel national football team. This was in a 1994 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Sweden. Revivo became a regular player for the national team under coach Shlomo Scharf. He played for Israel in three FIFA World Cup qualifying campaigns and UEFA European Football Championship qualifying campaigns. He also played in 26 friendly matches.
