Sir Hilary Duppa Miller (born March 6, 1929 – died March 21, 2015) was a British politician. He was a member of the Conservative Party.
Early Life and Education
Hilary Duppa Miller was the son of Lieutenant-Commander Jack Duppa-Miller and Barbara Miller. His mother's father was the first Viscount Buckmaster, who was a very important judge.
Sir Hal Miller went to Eton College, a famous school. After that, he studied at Merton College, Oxford and the University of London. In 1962, he started working for the government in Hong Kong.
Becoming a Member of Parliament
Sir Hal Miller wanted to become a Member of Parliament (MP). This means he wanted to represent people in the UK government. He tried to win elections in 1970 and 1971, but he didn't succeed at first.
Finally, in February 1974, he was elected as an MP for Bromsgrove and Redditch. He served in this role until 1983. Then, he became the MP for Bromsgrove from 1983 until he retired in 1992. He also served as a vice-chairman for the Conservative Party.
Life After Politics
After leaving Parliament, Sir Hal Miller worked in the car industry. He became the chief executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). This group helps car makers in the UK. He helped to make the society more modern and business-focused.
Later, he worked for a textile company called Cosmopolitan Textiles Limited. He helped this company start making parts for cars.
In 2005, he supported a project called Project Kimber. This project wanted to keep the MG sports car brand in Britain.
Family Life
Sir Hal Miller was married twice. In 1956, he married Fiona McDermid, and they had four children together. In 1976, he married Jacqueline Roe, and they had two children.
In 2000, he was given the title of Deputy Lieutenant (DL) of Worcestershire. This is an important role in the local community. His brother, Michael Miller, was a QC, which means he was a very senior lawyer.
